Building Preferences

Used to change preferences and settings related to how the product operates. Use the Preferences dialog to establish settings and preferences for Building elements.

  • Backstage: File > Settings > User > Preferences


The preferences of last selected category opens.
SettingDescription
Name for Preferences Displays the preferences currently being used. Key in a unique name in this field to save custom settings.
Set Building Designer Preferences Select Building Designer in the Category list box to view preferences that are applicable to all Building disciplines.
  • Create Compound Parts as Groups — When on, new compound parts are automatically placed as groups.
  • Update Openings — When on, openings associated with compound cells are updated if the cells are moved.
  • Backup also Compresses — When on, compresses the design file after it is backed up.
  • Successive Backups — Defines the number of backup files maintained when using the Backup command.
  • Update Relationships — When on, relationships between compound cells and linear forms are updated if the compound cells are moved.
  • Frame Builder Save Alert — When on, opens an alert box when the Frame Builder closes, prompting to save changes.
  • Display Forms As — Specifies how to process a form.
    • Faces – Process a form as a collection of shapes.
    • Edges – Process a form as a collection of edges.
Drop-down rows
  • Family — Sets the number of rows (lines) displayed in a drop down list for a Family.
  • Parts — Sets the number of rows (lines) displayed in a drop down list for a Part.
Auto Dimensions Font Size
  • Overall Width — Sets the text width used for Overall Auto Dimensions.
  • Overall Height — Sets the text height used for Overall Auto Dimensions.
  • Openings Width — Sets the text width used for Auto Dimensions of Openings.
  • Openings Height — Sets the text height used for Auto Dimensions of Openings.
  • Openings Increment — Defines a distance to be added to each end of a dimension of an opening when a Detailed Indented Auto Dimension line is generated.
Note: This setting is used in conjunction with the Building Element Info tool, Drawing Notation tab, Auto Dimensions, Openings Indented setting.
Keypoints for Associative Dimensioning
  • Turn On Dimensioning Keypoints - When on, accuracy and behavior of associative dimensioning keypoint snaps is very reliable. Keypoint snaps override element snaps in this mode.

    When off, element Snaps override keypoint snaps. Potential problematic snap situations in Building applications are avoided in this mode.

Unification Settings
  • Minimum Form Thickness - Determines a minimum form thickness value for unification to be activated in extracted drawing views. Higher values increase performance. Smaller values increase level of detail.
Focus Item Description A short description of the item where the pointer's focus is locate appears in this region.
Defaults Returns all tabs of the dialog to the default values.
OK Closes the dialog and implements changes on all tabs.
Cancel Closes the dialog and discards changes on all tabs.
